Roermond: More Than Just a Shopping Destination
Strolling through the streets of this wonderful city, I must admit there is more to discover than just a shopping destination. Yes, Roermond is famous for its Outlet Center stores, but hey—outside this shopping village, there’s so much more to explore.
Let’s start with some facts about the city. It’s beautifully positioned at the junction of two rivers: the Maas and the Roer. Yes, you got it—the name of the city is ROER (like the river) and MOND, which means “mouth.” So, some people romantically describe it as “the place where Roer kisses Maas.” How poetic, isn’t it?
This means you’re going to see mouth-shaped benches and plenty of signs reminding you of the city’s name. However, Roermond is not only a great riverside location—it actually holds medieval charm at its heart.
There’s no chance you’ll skip the old central square in the city called Markt.
The Markt is Roermond’s central square, surrounded by monumental buildings like the Rathaus Roermond and the Sint-Christoffelkathedraal. Honestly, it can really shift you back to older times. Around the Markt, you’ll find many restaurants where you can enjoy the beautiful architecture and have a nice meal. Just a tip: every Saturday there’s a market, so you can buy local food, groceries, and flowers.

A Roman Bridge and a View to Remember
Walking through its enchanting streets, lost in the magic, you happen upon a charming stone arch nestled in the old town. It’s a bridge built by the Romans hundreds of years ago. Decorated with colorful blossoming flowers, it’s a lovely reminder of the city’s history. And don’t forget the view!!! Ohh, this view—you could enjoy it all day long 😍

Exactly nearby the bridge, every day during summer, there’s a cruise boat offering a small trip on the Maas river.

After enjoying this stunning view and an ice cream, I headed to Munsterplein—a place where locals chill and enjoy the summer with nice music in the background.
What is Munsterplein?
Munsterplein! That’s the iconic square in Roermond where you’ll find the charming gazebo (kiosk), surrounded by historic architecture and a lively cluster of restaurants and cafés. It’s a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike to enjoy a drink or meal outdoors, especially in the warmer months when the terraces come alive.

nd my highlight for this place—don’t miss visiting Brownies & Downies café. They have the best brownies ever! Not only are they so delicious, but it’s also a place that shows how we can work together, no matter who we are. Just be polite and kind to each other.

Roermond isn’t just a destination—it’s an experience woven through cobblestone streets, graceful bridges, and vibrant squares. Its compact city center invites you to slow down, explore, and savor every moment, whether you're sipping coffee beneath the Munsterplein gazebo or discovering hidden boutiques. With its blend of history, charm, and modern flair, Roermond offers a perfect escape for those who crave culture with a touch of serenity.
