Beauty lies in imperfections.

Based on this, today I present to you a chaotic and imperfect Belgian city. If you're looking for a clean and tidy Europe, this place might not be for you.

YES! Chaos, bad traffic, dirty streets—and OH, CHARM! You might think I’ve lost my mind, and maybe you’re right to some extent. YES! I’m crazy about traveling and discovering new places. Liège is one of those cities that reminds me that a little bit of chaos is sometimes necessary—it helps us break free from sterile environments and reconnect with reality.

A Few Facts

Location: Liège is situated in eastern Belgium, in the Wallonia region. The city lies in the Meuse River valley, close to the borders of the Netherlands (Maastricht is about 33 km away) and Germany (Aachen is about 53 km away).

Population: Liège has a population of just over 195,000, making it the fifth-largest city in Belgium. The official language is French.

Industrial Revolution: Liège played a key role in the Industrial Revolution, especially in steel and glass production. In the 19th century, it was one of the most important industrial centers in Europe.

Cultural Hub: Liège is famous for its festivals, museums, and theaters. The Royal Theater of Liège is one of Belgium’s oldest and most impressive theaters.

Heroic Resistance in World War I: Liège played a crucial role at the start of the war. In 1914, the Fortresses of Liège provided serious resistance against German forces, delaying their advance.

Liège Today: The city is dynamic, artistic, and authentic, seamlessly blending its rich history with its modern vibrancy.

Did you know?   Liège is also called "Cité Ardente" or "The Fiery City" because of its energetic atmosphere, lively streets, and warm, welcoming people.

I can confirm—its atmosphere is truly captivating. This is a city that doesn’t strive for perfection. It is chaotic, full of life and personality, with a unique character all its own. If you’re looking for an authentic experience in Belgium, Liège will meet your expectations.
